Well, I ended up making 2 hats.
The first one, called "Thick and Quick", was easy and quick to make (http://crafts.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Crochet_Hat_Pattern). I think I need to make a scarf to go with it.
The second is a "Beary cute hat" (http://naidascrochet.tripod.com/patterns/bearyhat.html).
Tony made a parking cone, not sure where he found that pattern!

Yeah, interesting choice. He bought orange yarn so he could make one in the correct color!
